Stealing flowers for God

| Uncategorized

People who are religious often follow some daily rituals without wondering whether they are right or wrong. In posh areas of the city, most houses have a garden with a number of flowering plants, like mogra, rajnigandha, hibiscus , oleandar, bouganvillea, frangipani, roses. Doing puja everyday in the morning is part of the daily rituals and flowers are often collected. Some people have gardens with many flowers, others are not so lucky.Instead of purchasing the flowers or doing puja without flowers, they will steal the flowers from gardens of others.
On May 11, 2016, at around 7 am, at the first house in Lake View Colony, Panaji (from the St Inez Campal link road) it was observed that a bespectacled lady with a fair complexion and wearing a orange kameez with large white dots was observed, collecting pink oleander flowers from the oleander plant. Some of the branches of the oleander plant were outside the compound of the house, however the lady was not satisfied, she was pulling other branches outside to collect the flowers. She had already collected a large number of white flowers in a plastic bag.
Just because of ritual, the lady was taking so much effort and time to collect flowers early in the morning

Marigold is a very popular flower for religious functions, temple ceremonies and Indian weddings
The flowers will not wither for a week or more after blossoming
Plants grown from seeds are usually taller and more hardy
However there are a number of vendors selling potted marigold plants in polybags which flower in a short span of time using grafting and applying fertilizers. Though the flowers are larger in size than the flowers available in the marketplace, the plant requires a lot of maintenance and will dry up if not watered daily due to travel and other factors

In March 2016, some leaves are visible on the hibiscus plant which were attacked by the ants and aphids a month ago, leaving the plant coated with a white layer. this time the plant has been surrounded by bean plants, so would like to check if the ants will again launch an attack on the plant when it will flower again.

After the combined ant aphid attack left the hibiscus plant devoid of leaves and covered with a white coating of mold, it appears that the hibiscus plant has regenerated itself once more. Now green leaves are visible on the plant again and some buds may be visible in a week.

| Uncategorized

The media reported that the rose growers from the Lonavla in Maharashtra have started exporting their roses directly to foreign customers to get a better price. During valentine’s day, the demand for roses in Western countries is at the maximum and to cater to the demand, the rose growers have come together to get a good price of about Rs 15 per rose. In the domestic market, the price of these roses is lower at Rs 10 per flower. Some of the types of roses which are popular include Bordeaux, Top secret, Amazon, and these roses are sold with a long stem. In metro cities, the price of a rose can be as low as Rs 5, however the stem of the rose will be cut.
The rose growers were shown packing the roses in a brown cardboard before exporting the roses, and in 2016, they are reported to be making a good profit as they have eliminated the middleman for export.
